Guterres said that it is already important to turn the tragedy in Israel and the Gaza Strip into an opportunity – this means, according to him, to move “in a mutually exclusive but irreversible way to a solution (of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) in the form of two states”.

The head of the UN planned that even after the end of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, there should be a “strengthened Palestinian self-government that will take responsibility in the Gaza Strip”.
However, according to his words, the Palestinian self-government cannot go to Gaza accompanied by Israeli tanks, which means that the international community must be controlled during the transitional period. “I don’t think so, the UN protectorate in Gaza is already a solution,” he added.
Guterres called for the “approach of several interested parties”, which would consider the USA to be “the main guarantor of Israel’s security and the Arab country necessary to support the Palestinians”.
“Everyone must join together to create conditions for a transition that will allow the strengthened Palestinian self-government to assume responsibility in Gaza” and from there to a two-state solution, he said.
At the same time, the UN Secretary General again condemned the killing of civilians, especially children, in Gaza by the Israeli army in retaliation for the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. (TASR)
