Winter came to Alaska with great verve. Unfavorable weather led to the death of four people and crippled transport to the city.
In Anchorage, the state’s largest city, this year’s November may become a record for the amount of snow that has fallen, as a total of 96.3 cm of snow has fallen since the beginning of the month. This is only slightly less than the previous record of 98.6 cm.
There are still 11 days left until the end of November, so according to the current forecasts “a big chance, the record will be broken”. Meteorologist Dan Nelson from Národnej meteorologicke služby introduced this to CNN.
One record has already fallen
The local police guard against the danger caused by the weather. “Road conditions, traffic and weather conditions can significantly affect driving conditions,” wrote on social networks.
In Anchorage, one record has already fallen – denný. The Anchorage-based National Meteorological Service (NWS) announced that 22 cm of snow had already fallen on October 13, which is significantly more than the 6.9 cm recorded in 1979.
In the transition to the water equivalent, 1.7 liters of water per square meter fell there, which is more than the previous record of 1.2 cm from 2022.
“For a short time, a lot of snow fell, already služby nestíhajú čistiť cesty,” introduced by Nelson. You can see this perfectly in the video, where one of the employees of the local meteorological station was wading through snow drifts reaching his knees and even his waist in some places.
Blížiace sa next sneženie má bť already a little calmer than that of the last days. It will therefore be interesting to see if the November record falls in Alaska.
