The lone strike of Hollywood actors and screenwriters was the largest and longest since the 1960s, when the long-term functioning of the entertainment industry was stalled. Since May 2023, thousands of board-organized TV and film writers and screenwriters have quit their jobs due to concerns about earnings and license fees, to protect against mass job losses of their employees, and the increasingly popular use of artificial intelligence in various work processes.

The strike grew dramatically in July, when tens of thousands of actors and actresses from the Screen Actors Guild joined it, and almost all Hollywood productions went on strike.
